Dog-Friendly Things to Do in Oberon

At Highlands Motor Inn in Oberon, we know your dog is part of the family, so why leave your best friend at home when they can join the adventure?

Whether you’re planning a short weekend trip or an extended stay, Oberon offers a variety of dog-friendly spots where you and your furry friend can explore, relax, and enjoy the great outdoors.

Here are some of the best things to do with your dog in Oberon NSW.

1. Visit Mayfield Garden

One of Oberon’s most iconic attractions, Mayfield Garden, is not only an incredible spot for garden lovers, but it’s also a great place for dogs (on a lead). With 65 acres of stunning landscape, your pup will love the opportunity to explore the expansive grounds while you take in the beautifully manicured gardens, incredible water features, and cool-climate flora.

There are plenty of spots where you can sit and enjoy the scenery while your dog enjoys the fresh air. Don’t forget to stop by the café for a coffee and a treat for both you and your pup!

2. Take a Stroll at Oberon Common

If you’re looking for a more casual outing, Oberon Common is a local favourite for dog walkers. This spacious park in the heart of town offers plenty of open space for your dog to roam, and the walking paths are perfect for a leisurely stroll.

It’s an ideal place to relax after a long drive and let your dog stretch their legs before heading back to the motel.

3. Explore Local Walks and State Forests

For those who enjoy a bit of adventure, the local state forests offer a perfect natural setting for a dog-friendly outing. There are many networks of walking trails where you and your pup can enjoy the peace and beauty of the bush.

Blenheim Forest Walk is a 4 min drive from Highlands Motor Inn, with easy access via Shakespeare Close.

You can also take your dog for a long walk along the Oberon Tarana Heritage Rail Trail – a 6 km path that runs beside the partially restored Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway. The track begins on Lowes Mount Road, just a short stroll from the motel.

Be sure to bring plenty of water, as the forest trails can be quite long, and make sure your dog is on a lead at all times.

4. Oberon Dog Park: Let Your Pup Run Free

If your dog loves to run and socialise with other pups, Oberon Dog Park is the place to be. Located on Jenolan Street, near the town centre, this off-leash park gives your dog the freedom to run and play, making it a great spot for your dog to burn off some energy.

Your pup will feel safe and comfortable while having a blast with other four-legged friends.

5. Stop for a Bite at the O’Connell Hotel

Looking to refuel after a morning of adventure? The O’Connell Hotel, located just outside of Oberon, welcomes dogs in their large pet-friendly outdoor area. It’s a great spot to grab a bite to eat while your dog lounges at your feet.

The relaxed atmosphere of the beer garden makes it a perfect spot to unwind with a cold drink or a hearty meal after a day of exploring.

6. Take a Scenic Drive and Enjoy the Views

Oberon is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in New South Wales, and a scenic drive is a wonderful way to enjoy the area with your dog.

There are numerous spots along the way where you can stop, stretch your legs, and take in the views – whether it’s at a lookout point, along a country road, or at one of the many beautiful parks or reserves.

7. Explore the Local Shops & Markets

Oberon has a charming town centre where some of the cafes have outdoor dog-friendly outdoor seating.

On weekends, you can often find local markets in Oberon or Tarana selling fresh produce, crafts, and more – a great way to support the local community and enjoy the sights of Oberon with your pup in tow.
